System Requirements
Before installing, make sure your computer meets the system requirements.
To install Navigator on Windows, double-click on the installer that you downloaded from the downloads page. The installer will walk you through the rest of the installation.
To install Navigator on Mac OS X, open the DMG file that you downloaded for the downloads page and drag the Navigator application to your Applications folder.
To install Navigator on Linux, extract the archive you downloaded and run ./netscape/navigator from a terminal. (This will execute the browser; there are no formal installation instructions available for Linux.)

You can remove Navigator 9 through the Control Panel in the Start Menu on Windows, by removing the Navigator application on OS X, or by removing the navigator folder on Linux.
Removing Navigator 9 won't remove your bookmarks, web browsing history, extensions or other add-ons.

Netscape 8.1 is based on Firefox 1.0.7, with security protection in mind. It also guarantees pages render correctly, even these designed for MSIE. Using the opensource and most standard support - Firefox 1.0's rendering engine, Site Controls features allows you to adjust the security level (Java, JavaScript, cookies settings), and also allows you to switch to use Internet Explorer's engine to render pages when necessary.

Netscape 6
Netscape 6 is generally considered as premature product, Netscape 7 is a better choice for stability and much better standard support.
As from user support point of view, we strongly recommend you to use Netscape 7 instead of Netscape 6. Since we are an archive site, Netscape 6 is avalable here.
Netscape 6 is based on open source engine (Gecko), while Netscape Communicator 4.8 uses the engine that originally released in late 1994 and has been modified and enhanced through the evolution of internet.

| Looking for those earlier version of killer applications that helped bring the WWW to everyone?The browser was originally called 'Navigator', although people called it 'Netscape', and the suite is called Communicator. It was developed in 1994 by a team led by Marc Andreessen, who created Mosaic, the first Web browser that had a graphical user interface, at the University of Illinois' NCSA (National Center for Supercomputing Applications) in 1993.

Mosaic Netscape 0.9 was released on 13th October 1994 by the Mosaic Communication (later renamed to Netscape Communication Corp.) Netscape, a web browser, from the very beginning is significantly more advanced than any other browser of the time, including NCSA Mosaic.

Downloading Help
Most recent versions of Netscape are quite large and would take a long time to download, however the connection might not be perfect at all times. My personal recommendation is using a downloading manager for all your downloads especially those large files, like Go!Zilla for Windows 9x/NT, Monica for Macintosh, Caitoo for Linux.
If you receive Error 421 message, it means the FTP server is too busy. If there are Error 421 or any broken links, please report.
